F.R.I.E.N.D.S vs 2013

I lived and loved the 90's. From listening to the Spice Girls, through to collecting beanie babies and watching Bernard's Watch, I did it all. I haven't stopped watching 'Friends' since it first airred in 1994 and my love for Britney has not deteriorated at all.

Although maybe I was too young at the time to realise it, in hindsight, my favourite part of the 90's has to be the fashion. As I am still committed to watching Friends every night, I have noticed that this fashion is not far from where we are now in 2013 - maybe that's why I love it so much! Scrunchies, wedges and mom jeans, it appears my wardrobe has gone back in time!

DUNGAREES

Rachel Green, Season 1
Festival chic: The 24-year-old wore a pair of ripped dungarees along with a loose vest as she enjoyed the sunshine at Worthy Farm on Saturday
Cressida Bonas, Glastonbury 2013
Dungarees were worn by Rachel Greene in the early seasons of Friends and these were a popular trend in summer 2013 as shown by Cressida Bonas during Glastonbury. Dungarees have been adapted for AW13 by changing the fit and using different materials and patterns, to create a more wintery feel. I think ASOS have really utilized this trend and my favourite ones are shown below, along with the links to their page on the website:

WRAP SKIRTS

Monica Geller, Season 1
Armani, SS13

Wraps skirts are a popular spin on the mini skirt style this year, having kicked off for SS13, they are due to continue through to next summer as well. Whether they have a jagged straight hem, patterned or textured, or only wrap-look skirts, there are so many amazing ones around. Below are some of my faves, with their links following:

CAMI STRAP DRESSES

Rachel Green, Season 1
Model Fei Fei Sun, 2013

Cami strap dresses is a very versatile trend, it was perfect for the heat wave over the summer, but also through to winter. Wear it over long sleeved top or wear a sheer long sleeved top over it! I particular love the below cami strap dresses because they incorporate other autumn/winter trends: airtex, velvet and crochet.

PRINTED MAXI SKIRTS

Rachel Green and Phoebe Buffay, Season 1
Heidi Klum, June 2013 NYC

A big hit for the summer was printed, lightweight maxi or midi skirts. Splits were seen grazing the thigh or subtly placed and are the perfect garment to be wearing in the heat. These will move into heavier fabrics for the winter months, but one cannot forget the counter seasonal options for countries now moving into summer - Lucky them! See below for my favourite:

LINGERIE INSPIRED

Rachel Green, Season 4
Victoria Beckham, Wimbledon final 2013
Okay, so in Rachel Green's case, it was an accident that she ended up going out wearing this lingerie, however, this is a popular trend right now. The underwear as outerwear trend is set to continue through to SS14 and I love it because it is easy to layer up on and for a day-to-night feel.

BOYFRIEND SHIRTS

Phoebe Buffay, Season 1
Natalia Lima, August 2013

I love oversized shirts. They're brilliant for when you feel bloated, worn with leggings, under a jumper or tucked into a skirt, you can't go wrong with these!

TARTAN SKIRT

Rachel Green, Season 7
Anna Kendrick, LFW 2013

The AW13 trend of tartan is definitely one of my faves! Whether it's trousers, skirts, jumpsuits, scarves, dresses, coats, shoes - I have purchased/will purchase as much as I can in the next couple of months. This pattern really gets me in the wintery mood! I think ASOS tackles this trend really well, especially skirt-wise

These are just the main garments I've picked out, but trust me, every time I watch another episode, I see more similarities between now and FRIENDS.

Hope you enjoyed buckling my belt.

Speak soon,

T xoxo
