I'm Sandstoned

Recently we have been having our garden revamped. It has taken longer than expected but is finally starting to take shape.

A weaving path separates 3 sections of the garden as you walk down it. This path will lead to a 6ft tall by 9ft wide wall, which my artistic dad will being using as his art installation (more to come on this in a later post - when it is complete). The first section of the garden is grass and the final section before this wall is going to be slate chippings, however, it is the section that lies in between these 2 that I am focusing on in this post.
After much debate and price comparison, my parents finally settled on using Indian sandstone for the middle section. This material creates a vast array of patterns and colours that are only enhanced by water - perfect for rainy old England!

As I was walking along the path today, the variety of each individual paving stone really stood out to me - just showing that nature really is beautiful and sometimes, better left as it is!

FIRST LOOK: AW13 Topshop Collection

The one place on the high street that will never disappoint is Topshop.

It is the first point of call when in need of new shoes, a whole outfit or just inspiration. We all have a friend in Topshop!

The new autumn/winter collection will not let you down!

The collection brings a mixture of lace, leather and fur with a 90's themed, grunge-inspired twist. Checks, monochrome, quilting and pony skin really bring this collection to life, all of which were very present in the fall 2013 catwalk shows.

My favourite pieces from the collection are shown below

I particularly love the grunge aspect of this outfit. The black lace and heavy make up really playing up the floral shirt toning down the femininity of the outfit, whilst keeping it up to date and sassy

This patent leather coat is amazing! I love the rustic colour as it gives any outfit an instant update

I love the winter pastel colour palette used here. With the overall feel of the collection being grunge, it makes for a lovely and girly contrast that is bang on trend!

Checks are a must! I love the red checks on the jacket, mixed with the leather sleeves, this immediately screams attitude and adds edge to any outfit. I'm already loving the boyfriend-jeans-rolled-up-to-flash-ankle trend, so a perfect update for autumn/winter is adding some check print patches - why not do it yourself to an already existing pair!

I will be purchasing this coat asap. I love the tactile look, with the minimal colourblocking and subtle leather insert, it is a fashion must have, ideal for any occasion on a cold winter's day/night!

I love wrap skirts. Throughout spring/summer they were a big hit, so to see them updated in textures and darker colours for autumn/winter is great! I also love this loose, velvet crop - keeping in tone with the grunge feel

I had to include this as a favourite as I have already spied this skirt! I love midi skirts and I love the sheer and solid trend, so combined together is perfect! I will be purchasing this skirt imminently
It's good to see trainers are still a big hit - I love that they have come full circle from the 90's, meaning that we can be comfortable and stylish every day! I love the combination of these trainers with the leather trousers and fitted, monochrome jumper, adding a more luxe and modern feel

Hope you enjoyed buckling my belt,

Primark Binge

It comes (nearly) every summer, once a year.

It isn't easy or cheap and it wastes a full day.

"What?" I hear you ask?

A Primark binge!

Ever since my sister and I have had an opinion on what we wear, our mother has taken us to Primark for a massive shopping spree a week or so before our summer holiday. As we've grown older and have stopped venturing abroad with our parents, we have taken it upon ourselves to complete this mission and complete it well.

Today we went on said shopping spree. I never go in with high expectations as I always go in with a judgmental attitude. There will be clothes everywhere, other customers (normally 14 year old chavs or mums with too many children to handle) will barge you out of the way whilst the staff are rude and wish to be anywhere else but working there.

However, my ignorance is always proved wrong.

This particularly trip, the staff assistant was so help it was like we had a personal shopper. This was especially helpful when it came to buying clothes for my 6ft 4 boyfriend! This was pleasantly suprising as he was a joy to meet. We cannot dispute that Primark is cheap. Very, very cheap. This compromises the quality of the product sold, which normal causes me to avoid the store, however, as I purchase them with a short term use in mind (a 2 week on holiday), quality is not so much of an important factor to me.

Overall, I think the day was a success and with the help of other high street stores, I managed to pull together a few cheap and easy outfits.

I couldn't resist this jumpsuit. Ideal for travelling as it's easy to slip on and comfortable to wear. The cuffs of the legs are also elasticated so on arrival to the hot destination, they are easy to roll up!

The T-shirt is from Primark menswear but worn tied into a knot and sleeves rolled up, you would never guess! The colourful maxi skirt has a side, front split making for easy movement. Worn with flat or heeled sandals would be great for an evening meal and stroll

This top is from River Island last summer. Teaming this with the lightweight bottoms and heels is a perfect, simple outfit for an evening meal and drinks

This bright coloured playsuit, worn with sandals and a statement necklace will be great and cool for a night out on the town!

This basketball inspired T-shirt dress is ideal for the beach or as lounge wear because it is llight and will keep you cool in the hot weather

Thanks for reading and please keep buckling my belt

Ode to Victoria Beckham

One of my favourite women of all time has to be Victoria Beckham.

Ever since I was 5 years old and listening to the Spice Girls (getting to be posh spice whenever we played girl bands in the play ground at primary school was an honour), I have been in awe of her.

Conquering the fashion world only made my love for her grow. Every show gets stronger each time, with the stunning sophistication and empowering emotion she brings to every one of her collections, I can think of no other word to describe her other than inspiring.

I particularly love the simple shapes and colour pops of Victoria Beckham's last 2 collections because they are so adaptable but with a twist of flirty, modern fun.

Vintage Treats

Convent Garden - what a place.

All the hustle and bustle, street acts, amazing food and shops really gets my pulse racing.

In amongst all the craziness and around the corner, lies one of my favourite shops ever! Newly discovered, this has raced straight up to the top of my lists of where to shop.

This shop I speak so fondly of is Rokit - Vintage Clothing and Accessories!

Before my recent operation, I met up with a couple of friends and went on a mission to shop for less. Being in London, prices are normally high so we targeted vintage and charity shops only to discover this beauty of a shop. I'm pretty sure my parents have had most of the product for sale - if only my mother didn't do massive chuck outs so frequently!

My favourite buys are this vintage patch shirt and floral bomber jacket! Amazing! Teamed with an ASOS denim dress and a one off dogtooth skater skirt with braces (found at another vintage store) to keep to the much loved, old school theme.

How to show your legs by hiding them...

Now I have always hated my legs - what girl doesn't? Whenever I go on a diet or start religiously going to the gym, the weight falls from my waist, face and boobs but never my thighs!

What an annoyance this is when it comes to living in a heatwave as we have been the past month!

The way forward? Cycling shorts! When most people think of these beauties, they think of male cyclists teaming their professional gear with lycra shorts that show a little too much love to the crotch area, however, there is a way to style them for every day wear!

Shortening, ripping, using lace or a sheer material, combined with wearing them under another pair of shorts is the perfect street inspired update for hiding our least favourite part! I never thought I would be advising the combination of leggings and shorts - however, if the lengths are monitored and fit is mastered, this trend could be less 12 year old and more edgy fabulous!

Hope you keep buckling my belt,

Welcome

Hi All

As I sat here recovering from my recent surgery I wondered what I could do to pass the time that requires little energy and movement.

To pass the time, I have attempted to do many things. I have baked the most amazing cake (cinnamon and nutella cake), I have read the September issue of Vogue (most of which I read in hospital) and I have watched (a lot) of daytime, trashy TV but nothing has quite kept me from going insane with boredom. I am used to working a 9 to 5.30 job in London so sitting at home is beginning to suffocate me!

To save my sanity, I have come to the conclusion that creating this blog would be the best way to filter all my energy by letting the creative juices flow...

A little interesting bit about me...

I have recently finished a years work placement at a well known fashion company. It was an amazing company to work for! In true cliché style, I grew so much as a person during this year and feel very privileged to have met such a variety of people. I am now in a long summer and await my final year of uni where I will finish my fashion degree and continue to live my dream!

My blog will be a mixture of my life, fashion and random interesting snippets (normally of which I will learn from my wonderful and hilarious Dad)

Hope you enjoy buckling my belt,

T
